Stone Descriptions and Affirmations

Agate

Agate is the name given to many varieties of banded chalcedony, a Quartz mineral with a hardness of 7. The name Agate comes from the river Achetes in Sicily, where Agates were found in ancient times.   Agates are considered subtly stabilizing and strengthening influences that can help build lasting connections.  There are many varieties of Agate which focus on different Chakras and different Elements. 

 

Affirmation: I am balanced and stable, healthy and whole and at home on the Earth. 

Amethyst 

Amethyst is a member of the Quartz family with a hardness of 7. Amethyst ranges from pale to deep purple, its natural color is derived from trace amounts of iron and aluminum in the mineral. Amethyst has been found to be used by Neolithic people as early as 25,000 BC. Valued for its beauty, Amethyst has long been considered a stone of royalty.  

Amethyst facilitates meditation, its energy stimulating the Third Eye and the Crown Chakras. Amethyst is also grounding, providing an energy of protection and Divine connection between the physical and the spiritual planes. 

 

Affirmation: I align my thoughts and will to the Divine pattern of my spiritual purpose. 

Apatite

Apatite is a calcium phosphate mineral with a hardness of 5 and is found in the Eastern and Western Hemispheres.  Its name is derived from the Greek word meaning “to deceive” because of the variety of colors it can be found in.

 The blue, green and gold Apatite are considered the most energetic and help to facilitate prosperity, clarity and focus. 

 

Affirmation: I open my heart to receive new energy, new home and new life. 

 

Aquamarine

Aquamarine is a blue or blue-green variety of beryl with a hardness of 7.7-8. Aquamarine’s  name stems from the Latin meaning “water of the sea”. In ancient lore Aquamarine was believed to be a treasure of mermaids and was used as a talisman to bring good luck, fearlessness and protection to sailors. 

Aquamarine activates the throat chakra, stimulating the flow of energy from the heart to the throat. Aquamarine helps release stagnant energy to promote a clearing of emotional buildup.  

 

Affirmation: I embody the yielding, cooling power of water, and I express my truth with calm certainty. 

 

Chalcedony

Chalcedony is a silicon dioxide mineral composed of submicroscopic Quartz grains with a hardness of 7.  The name Chalcedony may have been derived from the Greek port city of Chalcedon. Chalcedony have been found in ancient civilizations in Egypt, Greece and Rome.  

 

Chalcedony restores calm and balance to the emotional body and helps to center you in the present instead of worrying about the future. Chalcedony activates the throat and third eye  chakra and aids one in being more positive, conscious and clear in one’s communication.  

 

Affirmation: I am at peace with myself and my world, and my awareness of all that I am is ever growing.  

Citrine

Citrine is a silicon dioxide mineral, a member of the Quartz group with a hardness of 7. It varies in shades from very pale yellow to a deep amber to orange. The name citrine comes from the French word citron, meaning lemon. 

Citrine stimulates imagination through three portals  - the second, third and sixth chakra. Citrine harmonizes these three energy centers which allows for creative imagination. This stone also helps to lighten dark thoughts and brings optimism, playfulness and happiness into one’s energy systems. 

 

Affirmation: I open myself to the inspiration of my creative imagination, and through the strength of my will, I manifest my dreams. 

Diamond

Diamond is a crystal of pure carbon with a hardness of 10 - the hardest of all substances. Although diamonds are thought of as colorless stones they are found in many different colors - yellow, brown, pink, blue, green and even red. Diamonds have long been valued for their magical properties and were believed to provide victory and protection to the wearer. 

Diamonds enhance inner vision and stimulate the imagination. This stone activates the third-eye, crown and etheric chakras promoting truth, courage and light. 

 

Affirmation: I call forth clarity of vision, radiance of Light, and sovereignty of Self.

 

Diopside

Diopside is a calcium magnesium silicate with a hardness of 5.5 to 6. Its color is usually white to light brown to greenish black. Diopside’s are found in China, India and the United States. 

The energy of Diopside opens the heart, root and Earthstar (below the feet) chakras creating a grounding cord of Light from one’s heart to the heart of the Earth. Diopside allows one to deeply explore the connection between humanity and Nature. 

 

Affirmation: My heart is open and I am deeply connected with the Earth, I am filled with love, healing and vitality. 

Emerald

Emerald is a green variety of Beryl with a hardness of 7.5 to 8. Its pigment is chrome and/or vanadium.  The name Emerald is derived from the Greek smaragdos, which means “green stone”, and in ancient times was applied to a number of other green gemstones. The finest Emerald gems have been found in Colombia but are also mined in Brazil, Russia and Africa. 

Emerald connects one to the frequency of Divine Love, opening the individual heart to the communal heart. 

 

Affirmation: Through love and compassion, all things are healed and blessings flow freely. 

Garnet

There are five varieties of garnets mostly made up of aluminum silicates with a hardness of 6.5 to 7.5. The word Garnet is derived from the Latin word granatum which means ‘pomegranate,’ referencing the similarity of color and form to a pomegranate seed. Garnets have been used as far back at the Bronze Age. Garnets have been heralded all over the world from Ancient Greek and Roman civilizations to the Aztecs and Native Americans.  According to the Talmud, the only light on Noah’s ark was provided by a large Garnet. 

Garnet carries the energy of prosperity and manifestation of ones desires in the physical domain. 

 

Affirmation: My body, emotions, and spirit are aligned and working for my highest good. 

 

Hematite

Hematite is an iron oxide mineral with a hardness of 5 to 6. Its name is derived from the Greek word for blood, a reference to the color of this mineral in powdered form. Fine grade Hematite is mined in Brazil and the United States. Hematite is the most effective of all stones for grounding oneself in the body and the physical world. It pulls stray energies down through the meridian system to the root chakra. 

 

Affirmation: Through my body, I ground the energies of the Light realms in this world. 

Iolite

Iolite is a magnesium aluminum silicate mineral with a hardness of 7 to 7.5. The name Iolite comes from the stone’s violet color. The most important Iolite deposits are in Brazil, Madagascar, Burma, India and Sri Lanka. Iolite carries a beautiful violet-blue energy that activates and clears the third eye. It encourages a positive, calm and clear mind in the midst of adversity. 

 

Affirmation: I open myself to the path of inner vision and I trust that I will be guided to my highest good. 

Jade

Jade is a name shared by two distinct minerals - Nephrite, a calcium magnesium silicate and Jadeite, a sodium aluminum silicate. Nephrite Jade, with a hardness of 6, is found in white, deep green and creamy brown.  Jadeite, with a hardness of 6.5 to 7, can be leafy green, blue-green, emerald green, lavender and black. In China, Jade has been the most highly esteemed stone throughout recorded history. For many centuries it was believed to strengthen the body during life and protect one after death. Jade is a stone of the heart and works on enhancing all aspects of the heart chakra - compassion, joy, courage and protection. 

 

Affirmation: I embrace the joy and spiritual perfection of existence. 

Jasper

Jasper is a microcrystalline variety of Quartz, a silicon dioxide mineral with a hardness of 6.5 to 7. The name Jasper is derived from a Greek word meaning ‘spotted stone’. Jaspers are found all over the world including India, Russia, Brazil, Germany and the United States. 

Jasper stimulates the base chakra and the energetic kundalini ‘serpent’ that dwells at the base of the spine. The rising of this serpentine energy up the spine clears and strengthens each of the charkas of the energetic body. It works to increase the amount of chi, or life force, in one’s energetic field. 

 

Affirmation: My physical vitality, emotional balance, personal integrity and enjoyment of life grow ever stronger. 

Kunzite

Kunzite is the pink to violet form of Spodumene, a lithium aluminum silicate with a hardness of 6 to 7. Kunzite is named after mineral collector G.F. Kunz, who first described this material in 1902. The main deposits of Kunzite are in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Brazil, Madagascar, California and Maine. Kunzite is a conduit from one’s heart to the vibration of Divine Love. Kunzite’s frequency encourages one to release fear and move into life with joy and exuberance. 

 

Affirmation: I open to receive Divine Love, and I listen to its silent voice in my heart. 

Kyanite

Kyanite is an aluminum silicate mineral with a hardness of 6 to 7. Kyanite comes in many different colors the most common being blue, indigo, green and black. Kyanite is found in Brazil, South Africa, Switzerland, Burma, Kenya, Mexico and the USA. 

Kyanite is a stone of connection, of building bridges of Light between disparate aspects of experience. Kyanite stimulates the third eye and bridges blockages in the energetic and physical bodies and helps protect the aura. 

 

Affirmation: I cross the inner brings which lead to my growth. 

Labradorite

Labradorite is a plagioclase feldspar with a hardness of 6 to 6.5. Its name is derived from the Labrador peninsula in Canada, where the stone was first found in 1770. It is treasured for its remarkable play on color with flashes of green, blue, gold, orange, red and violet. Labradorite is the gemstone of magic and it activates the inner eye allowing one to more clearly envision the past, future and distant places. 

 

Affirmation: I call forth the magic of higher awareness. 

Lapis Lazuli

Lapis Lazuli is a sodium aluminum silicate with sulfur, chlorine and hydroxyl with a hardness of 5 to 6. Lapis Lazuli has been found in all of the ancient civilizations; Greek, Roman and Egyptian. The name means “blue stone” in Latin and originates from the ancient Persian word lazhuward meaning “blue”. The finest Lapis comes from the West Hindu Kush mountains of Afghanistan. All of the ancient civilizations considered Lapis Lazuli to be a stone of royalty and spirituality. 

Lapis Lazuli awakens the third eye and enhances meditative journeys. It is a stone for clairvoyance and carries the vibration of the inner ‘king’ or ‘queen’ that lies in each of us. 

 

Affirmation: I claim the sovereignty and power of my highest seed, and I align myself with my highest truth. 

 

Larimar

Larimar is a sodium calcium silicate mineral with a hardness of 4.5 to 5. It forms in the cavities within basaltic lava. Larimar can only be found on the island of Hispaniola, in the Caribbean Sea. 

Larimar is a water element stone and has a calming and cooling effect on the wearer. It is also a stone of feminine power, bringing in the goddess energies and allowing one to access the Divine Feminine within.  Larimar teaches the value of self-nurturance and self-respect.

 

Affirmation:  I am cool, calm and serene, yet fully in touch with my feminine power, and I clearly communicate my wisdom and desires. 

Malachite

Malachite is a copper carbonate mineral with a hardness of 3.5 to 4. Malachite is found in Zaire and other deposits in Australia, Chile, South Africa and the USA. Malachite was known in ancient Egypt as early as 3000 B.C. The ancient Greeks and Romans also used it for jewelry, ornaments, and in powdered form, for eye shadow.  In the Middle Ages, Malachite was believed to protect against the evil eye.

Malachite holds the male or ‘yang’ polarity, strengthening our ability to take action in the world. Malachite reminds us that we are co-creators in this world and that the possibilities for our creations are endless. 

 

Affirmation: I align my personal will with my understanding of Divine will, and I move forward with clarity and confidence. 

Moldavite

Moldavite is a member of the Tektite group, a glassy mixture of silicon dioxide, aluminum oxide and other metal oxides with a hardness of 5.5 to 6. Moldavite’s formation coincides with the crash of a large meteorite in what is now the Bohemian plateau of the Czech Republic, approximately 14.8 million years ago. Most specimens are found strewn throughout that area. 

Throughout history, Moldavite has been regarded as a spiritual talisman. The Neolithic peoples of Easten Europe wore Moldavite at least 25,000 years ago. Moldavite has been viewed as a relic of the legend of the Holy Grail in which the physical ‘grail’ was carved from Moldavite, “the green stone that fell from the sky”.

Moldavite energies can activate any and all of the chakras, stimulate the kundalini and propel one into one’s future with a powerful force. Moldavite is an activation stone - it pushes the wearer to action and change and allows blocks to dissolve. 

 

Affirmation: I open myself to transformation and I invoke the manifestation of my highest destiny. 

Moonstone

Moonstone is a feldspar mineral with a hardness of 6 to 6.5. Moonstone was named after its blue-white sheen which is caused by its lamellar structure. It is found in Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Burma, Australia, India and the USA.  

Moonstone is the gem of the High Priestess, keeper of the feminine mysteries. Moonstone encourages us to pay attention to the cycles of our lives and to connect to the energy and power of the moon. 

 

Affirmation: I call forth the energies of the deep Feminine, and I open myself to the inner gifts of the Goddess. 

Morganite

Morganite is a pink, peach or purple/pink variety of Beryl with a hardness of 7.5 to 8. Morganite was mined first in Madagascar in 1902. It was named after the financier and mineral collectors J.P. Morgan. 

Morganite is a water element stone that acts to cleanse and energize the heart and emotional body. It opens and clears the heart chakra and promotes the healing of fear, resentment and anger. Morganite helps attune one to the energy of abundance and to open to receive the love of the Divine. 

 

Affirmation: Divine love enters this world through the gate of my heart.

Onyx

Onyx is a variety of Chalcedony, a member of the Quartz family with a hardness of 7.  Black Onyx is most often made by dying gray Chalcedony in various ways. 

Black Onyx is a stone of inner strength. It enhances one’s endurance and persistence, even with the most difficult of tasks. Black Onyx stimulates the Earthstar and first chakra, assisting one in grounding and connecting with the electromagnetic energy of the Earth. 

 

Affirmation: I work on all my chosen talks with clear focus, strong discipline, unrelenting perseverance and high efficiency. 

Opal

Opal is a hydrated silica material with a hardness of 5.5 to 6.5. The name Opal is derived from the Latin opalus and the Sanskrit upala, meaning ‘precious stone’. Opals have been mined since the 14th century, and historically considered good luck talisman. 

Opal is considered to carry a seed of the “holy fire” and Opal can be called upon to bring angelic energy into ones life. 

 

Affirmation: I become aware of my emotions and their sources and I release them into the Light. 

Peridot

Peridot is a magnesium iron silicate mineral with a hardness of 7. Its olive or lime green color is caused by iron.  The name Peridot is of Greek origin but the original meaning is not known. 

For 3000 years, Peridot has been gathered and mined on the Egyptian Island of Zagbargad. Zagbargad is Arabic for Olivine, or Peridot. Since ancient times,  Peridot was viewed as a symbol of the sun with their vibrations bringing an inner sense of warmth and wellbeing to the wearer. 

Peridot aids one in perceiving and honoring the source of all abundance. It can be used to manifest the increase of wealth, increase of health and increase of joy and emotional well being. 

 

Affirmation: I gratefully receive my birthright of success, abundance and prosperity on all levels. 

Prasiolite

Prasiolite or Green Amethyst, is a member of the Quartz family, a silicon dioxide crystal with a hardness of 7. Its name derives from the Greek word meaning ‘leek’ and Prasiolites color is leek-green. Prasiolite starts out as a type of purple Amethyst, found in Brazil, and its color is changes to green by heat. This can be done artificially in kilns by heating the stones to 932 degrees Fahrenheit, or by volcanic thermal activity. 

Prasiolite carries the energetic link between the heart and crown chakras to the Earth or grounding space. It opens the heart to the energy of compassion and connection of all things. 

 

Affirmation: I link and integrate the higher and lower aspects of my being within my awakened heart. 

Quartz

Quartz is a silicon dioxide crystal with a hardness of 7.  Its crystal system is hexagonal and it is the most abundant of minerals. Quartz crystals are found on every continent on Earth. The name comes from the Greek for “ice” and ancients believed that Quartz crystal was water frozen so hard it could never thaw. 

Quartz embodies the concept of clarity and the value of becoming a vessel for the Light of the Divine. It brings clarity of thought and purpose to one’s mind and heart and can assist one in overcoming confusion. Quartz is used to enhance communication and to stimulate and open all chakras.

 

Affirmation: I open my heart and mind to receive clarity and invigoration of my energy pathways. 

Rhodochrosite

Rhodochrosite is a manganese carbonate with a hardness of 3.5 to 4. Its name derives from the Greek word for its rose-red color.  Rhodochrosite is found in Argentina and Colorado. 

Rhodochrosite is a powerful heart healer, directed first to the self, specifically for purposes of emotional healing.  It is ideal for nervous system imbalances and aids in the healing of emotional trauma. It can help one feel more confident in using one’s will to create one’s reality. 

Affirmation: With compassion for myself and others, I engage the process healing from past wounds and I embrace with joy the recovery of my wholeness. 

 

Rhodonite

Rhodonite is a manganese meta-silicate mineral with a hardness of 5.5-6.5. Rhodonite's name derives from the Greek word meaning “rose-red”, and it is usually that color. Rhodonite frequently contains black inclusions of manganese oxide. Rhodonite can be found in many countries including Russia, Sweden, India and Canada. 

Rhodonite is a stone of learning and development. It carries the energy of cooperative community and it supports one in perceiving one’s gifts and in utilizing those gifts to effect change. Rhodonite is a stone of self worth and self love and in directing those energies to responsible change. 

 

Affirmation: I call forth my hidden talents and abilities, and I use them lovingly for the benefit of all. 

Rose Quartz

Rose Quartz is a member of the Quartz family, a silicon dioxide crystal with a hardness of 7. Its name is derived from its color which ranges from a very pale pink to a deep reddish pink. Rose Quartz is found in Brazil, Madagascar and in the USA. 

Rose Quartz is the stone for love - love of oneself, one’s partner, children, family, friends, community, the Earth, the Universe and the Divine. Meditation with these stones provides an envelope of love energy around oneself. It stimulates and opens the heart chakra, clears the emotional body and assists in opening blocked emotional patterns. 

 

Affirmation: I open my heart to receive and express the energy of love. 

Ruby

Ruby is a red variety of corundum, an aluminum oxide with a hardness of 9. Its crystal system is hexagonal. The intense red color of Ruby comes from chromium. Rubies have been mined in Sri Lanka, Burma, Thailand, India, Brazil and the United States. Rubies have long been revered as a stone of royalty. 

Rubies are powerful tools for stimulating the root chakra and bringing additional love force and vitality to one’s being.  Rubies have the effect of energizing and activating one’s physical, mental and emotional bodies and of carrying the chi through the body.

 

Affirmation: I embrace my life with fierceness, passion and the courage to accomplish all that I will do. 

Rutilated Quartz

Rutilated Quartz is a combination of Clear or Smoky Quartz, a silicon dioxide mineral with a hardness of 7, with inclusions of Rutile, a titanium oxide mineral with a hardness of 6 to 6.5. Most Rutilated Quartz comes from Brazil and Madagascar. 

Rutilated Quartz activates the higher mind, assisting one in gaining knowledge of a spiritual nature. It can help one maintain mental focus and following through on ideas or plans. 

Rutilated Quartz can be sued to magnify the energy of practically any intention or affirmation. 

 

Affirmation: All my positive intentions and the unfolding of my purpose are magnified, accelerated, attuned to the frequency of grace. 

Sapphire

Sapphire is a variety of corundum, an aluminum oxide with a hardness of 9. Its crystal system is hexagonal. Fine Sapphire have been discovered in India, SriLanka, Cambodia, Thailand, Tanzania, Madagascar, Pakistan and Afghanistan.  Sapphire is found in a variety of colors including many shades of blue, violet, pink, white, green, black, yellow and orange. Sapphire was used by the Etruscans over 2500 years ago and was also prized in ancient Rome, Greece and Egypt. 

 

Blue Sapphire is a Wind element stone that stimulates psychic and mental abilities, enhancing our extrasensory perception. 

 

Yellow Sapphire is a Fire element stone that carries the frequency of prosperity and wealth. It is a stone of creativity and the manifestation of ideas into form. 

 

Orange Sapphire also called Padparadsha Sapphire comes from the Sinhalese word for ‘Lotus Flower’ and refers to its orange/pink color. It is among the rarest and most prized variety of Sapphire and its properties evoke a unique blend of creativity, sensuality and spirituality. 

 

Pink Sapphire balances the Water and Fire elements. Pink Sapphire stimulates the gentle emotions of love, forgiveness, acceptance and release. 

 

White Sapphire is a Wind element stone and is easily mistaken for a Diamond. Its energies are pure and it brings clarity of thought and mind. 

 

Affirmation: Through spiritual vision and mental clarity, focusing on my heart centered creativity, I choose the highest path. 

Smoky Quartz

Smoky Quartz is a variety of Quartz, a silicon dioxide mineral with a hardness of 7. Smoky Quartz can vary in color from very pale tan to a deep chocolate brown. Smoky Quartz is found in many countries including Brazil, Australia, Madagascar, Switzerland and the USA. 

Smoky Quartz is one of the most powerful grounding stones, it assists one in connecting to the Earth and completing the electrical circuit between one’s physical body and the planet. 

 

Affirmation: I am grounded and centered in my physical body, and I work step by step to achieve my goals. 

Spinel

Spinel is a magnesium aluminum oxide mineral with a hardness of 7.5 to 8. Colors range from red to blue, green, colors, black and brown. Fine specimen of Spinel have been found in Madagascar, Burma and Sri Lanka. 

Spinel is a stone of revitalization. It can stimulate any of the chakras as well as the meridian system, bringing fresh energy where it is most needed. Spinel encourages one to ‘let go and let God’. It is an anti-stress ally and is very useful in soothing the brain and the nervous system. 

 

Affirmation: I am revitalized, fully alive and filled with the zest for life, and I use my energies in inspired and innovative ways to benefit myself and others. 

Tanzanite

Tanzanite is a member of the Zoisite family, a calcium aluminum silicate mineral with a hardness of 6.5 to 7. Tanzanite was first discovered in 1967 in Tanzania, Africa. It is also referred to as blue Zoisite. 

Tanzanite is one of the most valuable of all metaphysical stones. It is the stone which most effectively integrates the energies of the mind and heart, helping one to remain centered

in the hearts wisdom. Tanzanite activates the third-eye, and crown chakras in attunement with the heart chakra, integrating the mind and heart. 

 

Affirmation: My mind and heart meet again, like reunited lovers, and I enter their spiral dance of joy. 

Topaz

Topaz is an aluminum silicate fluoride hydroxide crystal with a hardness of 8. The name of Topaz may derive from Topazos, a word meaning ‘to seek’ or may come from the Sanskrit word tapaz, which means ‘fire’. Topaz is found in many countries including Brazil, Russia, Japan, Mexico, Australia and Madagascar. Natural colors of Topaz include gold, blue, pink, pale green and red. 

Topaz works to help clarify one’s intentions and to stay focused on manifesting those intentions. Topaz opens the throat and third eye chakra, facilitating the communication of visions and knowledge to other. It promotes sharing and communication, as well as learning and mental perception. 

 

Affirmation: I perceive and express my intuitive insights with clarity and precision.

 

Tourmaline

Tourmaline is a complex aluminum borosilicate with a hardness of 7 to 7.5. No other gemstone has such a wide variations in colors. Tourmalines can be red, pink, yellow, brown, black, various shades of green, blue, lilac and violet. Tourmalines were known in ancient times in the Mediterranean. They were imported from Sri Lanka to Europe by Dutch traders and given the Sinhalese name Turamali, meaning ‘something small from the earth’. Tourmaline is now found in Brazil, Africa, Madagascar, Sri Lanka, Russia and the USA.
